Boston Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery is a great way to improve the appearance of many men and women over the age of 40, though younger patients may sometimes benefit as well. Droopy upper eyelids or puffy lower eyelids (bags under the eyes) result in a tired, sad appearance.

Blepharoplasty can result in a more alert, youthful appearance without an extreme makeover.

After surgery you will still look like yourself, only younger and more vibrant. Numerous before and after photos of actual patients who have had surgery with Boston Eyelid Surgery are available on this website.

In most patients, the main goal of upper blepharoplasty is to remove excess skin from the upper eyelids.

The skin of the upper eyelids is subject to stretching from millions and millions of blinks. As we age, this causes the development of excess upper eyelid skin which often results in an aged, tired and sad appearance. Upper blepharoplasty surgery can help reduce aging related changes and restore a more youthful, happy and less tired appearance.

In contrast to upper blepharoplasty, the main goal of lower blepharoplasty is usually to remove excess fatty tissue.

Fat present in the orbital tissues behind the eyes can often come forward causing bags under the eyes. This frequently causes people to look much more tired than they really are. Removing excess fatty tissue helps reduce the eyelid bags and helps restore a more energetic, less tired appearance.

In many patients, the appearance of bags under the eyes can be improved with lower eyelid injections, also known as non-surgical blepharoplasty.

This treatment uses an injectable gel called Restylane to reduce hollowing along the under eye bones and help camouflage under eye puffiness. Some patients who might benefit from lower blepharoplasty are not ready for surgery and can benefit from a non-surgical procedure to help them look less tired.

For other patients, the main problem is under eye hollowing and not excess fatty tissue, and non-surgical blepharoplasty is the treatment of choice to help improve their appearance. In addition to surgical procedures in Boston MA, Boston Eyelid Surgery has a large practice devoted to minimally invasive facial rejuvenation with Botox and facial fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm.

Botox can help reduce wrinkles, especially in the area between the eyebrows, on the forehead and in the crows feet area around the eyes. Facial fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm can help fill hollows under the eyes, improve sunken cheeks, reduce the appearance of smile lines and help create fuller lips, in a much safer way than the collagen injections used in the past.

Dr. Kapadia’s philosophy is to help patients achieve their goals and look their best using the least invasive options available.

Many patients come to him to for consideration of surgery and are surprised to learn that a less invasive option is available.

As an oculofacial plastic surgeon (a.k.a. oculoplastic surgeon or ophthalmic plastic surgeon), Dr. Kapadia has more extensive training in blepharoplasty and other forms of eyelid procedures than any other type of physician, training based at the nation's top medical schools including Harvard and The University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Kapadia has more than ten years of experience in cosmetic surgery and has performed more than 5000 eyelid surgeries including thousands of blepharoplasty procedures. He is also a recognized expert in the field of non-surgical eyelid rejuvenation and has treated several thousand patients with lower eyelid filler injections.

Facial skin resurfacing with a fractional CO2 or erbium laser can help reduce sun damage and improve skin texture.

These treatments can be performed in conjunction with eyelid surgery or filler injections or done as an independent procedure. A laser is used to ablate small columns of skin. The new skin that grows back tends to have less fine lines and pigmentation. A less invasive treatment, intense pulsed light (IPL) can be used in patients with less severe sun damage to improve pigmentation and reduce facial redness.

His practice is based in Wellesley, Massachusetts and at Tufts Medical Center in downtown Boston, where he is a full-time faculty member. However, both consultations and surgery are available at several other convenient suburban locations.

If you decide to schedule a consultation, you will find that Dr. Kapadia is a warm, caring physician who absolutely loves his job and is dedicated to helping people look their best.
