Project Description

These photos show before and after photos of a woman who had upper blepharoplasty surgery in her late 30s. The after photo was taken 12.5 years after surgery at age 51.⠀ ⠀ The patient is also a nurse who I work with in the operating room. I grabbed her during a busy day to take a quick photo, hence the operating room hat in the after photo. ⠀ ⠀ She had significant upper eyelid hooding at a young age. You can see that even 12.5 years after surgery, there is a lot of improvement in her upper eyelids. In her 30s, she wasn’t able to wear eyeliner as it would get covered up by the extra skin. Years later, she continues to have space between her eyelash line and the eyelid crease to wear eye makeup.⠀ ⠀ For some patients, upper eyelid hooding is “their look”, think Renee Zellweger. If patients want to keep some hooding, surgery can be done more conservatively, but it will not last as long. It’s important to have this discussion with every patient before surgery so the surgeon and patient are on the same page about how much should be removed.⠀
