This page shows before and after photos of actual patients who have had lower blepharoplasty surgery with Dr. Kapadia. Lower eyelid surgery is used to treat puffiness under the eyes, commonly referred to as under eye bags and entails carefully removing excess fat from the lower eyelids. In some patients, excess skin is also removed or tightened with a laser.
Under eye bags often cause people to have a tired, aged appearance, even when they are fully rested. Reducing the appearance of the under eye bags leads to a refreshed, less tired look as seen in the photos below. As always, the hallmark of Dr. Kapadia's style is to produce natural looking results. Notice how no one looks pulled tight or surgical after surgery.
The eyes are usually the first thing notice when they look at a face and are often one of the first parts of the face to show signs of facial aging. Eyelid surgery alone can often make a dramatic improvement in overall appearance of a face, as seen in the examples below.
Patient 1 - Before and seven months after lower blepharoplasty surgery
These photos show a woman in her mid-40s before and after lower blepharoplasty surgery. Prior to surgery, she has large under eye bags which make her look tired even when she is fully rested. Removing the under eye bags helps her look awake and refreshed. Notice how she still looks natural and doesnt look like she has had surgery.
Patient 2 - Before and two months after lower blepharoplasty surgery
These photos show a man in his early 60s before and after lower blepharoplasty surgery. After surgery he looks refreshed and less tired but still looks like himself. Many patient in this age group enjoy working and want to continue working into their 70s or later. Eyelid surgery can help patients look their best and feel more comfortable competing and interacting with younger colleagues.
Patient 3 - Before and six weeks after lower blepharoplasty surgery
These photos show a patient in her early 30s before and after lower blepharoplasty surgery. Notice how she looks almost exactly the same after surery, just without under eye bags. Puffiness under the eyes is not always related to aging and can often be seen in the 20s and 30s. Surgery can be truly life changing for these patients, as they are often reminded of their issue multiple times a day when people ask them if they are tired.
Patient 4 - Before and two months after lower blepharoplasty surgery
These photos show a woman in her late 40s before and after lower blepharoplasty surgery. Most patients who choose to undergo lower eyelid surgery do not have extreme amounts of puffiness like the previous photo. These photos show surgical results in a woman with more moderate under eye bags. As in the more extreme examples, removing the under eye bags helps her look less tired and more rested without looking unnatural.
Patient 5 - Before and three months after lower blepharoplasty surgery
These photos show a woman in her mid-20s before and after lower blepharoplasty surgery. Filler injections were also used to blend the eyelid-cheek junction. As you can see this patient had severe under eye bags at a very young age. After surgery, she still looks like herself, but just looks a lot less tired without the puffiness under her eyes. Note how the shape and position of her eyelids are unchanged by the surgery.
About lower blepharoplasty surgery
As you can see from the photos, lower eyelid surgery can be a great treatment for patients with to help patients with under eye puffiness look less tired. Dr. Kapadia typically performs this surgery through an incision on the back of the eyelid, so there is no visible scar. This surgery can be uncomfortable for awake patients, so Dr. Kapadia usually performs this surgery in the hospital under IV sedation or general anesthesia. The surgery takes about 30 minutes to perform and patients return home the same day. We always recommend taking two weeks off of work due to bruising and swelling after surgery, but some patients choose to return to work sooner. Final results are usually visible by about 6 months.
Filler injections are sometimes used after lower blepharoplasty surgery to blend the eyelid-cheek junction. Not everyone patient needs to have this done, but this extra step can help optimize the results of surgery in certain patients. If needed, fillers are added 6-8 weeks after surgery and usually last several years. All patients who had under eye fillers in addition to their surgery on this website have this noted in their caption. If you are interested in this surgery, Dr. Kapadia can discuss this with you further during your consultation.
Lower blepharoplasty surgery is usually the best option to treat patients with significant under eye bags. In some patients with very mild bags, filler injections can be used to help camoflage under eye bags without surgery. Some of the differences between lower eyelid surgery and filler injections are discussed in the articles section of this website, but a consultation is required to determine which treatment would be best for you.
